To Err is to Human to Forgive is to Divine

Fifa 2006 is perhaps witnessing the worst ever collection of match officials. ‘Match Official’ is perhaps the technical term used to call the Refrees. This is what happens when you work in this industry for a long time all you do is use technical term so that only a blessed few can understand it. Coming back to the World Cup; this years World Cup has seen quiet a few refreeing blunder. The most recent ones being yesterday’s decision in the Italy-Australia match. Italians won the match on a penalty in the 90th minute thanks to play-acting by Totti. I guess like cricket it’s high time that football takes the help of a 2nd refree who would give the decision with aid from the media. This will no doubt slow the game but will produce fare result. I really feel sorry for the fighting Aussies.
The day before this match another electrifying drama was staged in the match between Netherland-Portugal. 12 yellow and 4 red cards were shown. The second half turned out to be more of wrestling than of soccer. If the refree would have been tough things would have been under control. To add fuel to the fire some of the decisions made by the linesmen were so ridiculous that one would doubt the very eyesight of these men. Football is by far one of the most pulsating game. I think its high time that technology should be used to minimize human errors so that one expects free and fare result.
